Torture near Ipswich; Suspicious fire in Chinchilla

Assault and torture charges, Sadilers Crossing – Ipswich

A man and woman have been charged following an alleged incident that occurred at Saidlers Crossing near Ipswich on June 3.

Around 8pm, a 55-year-old man attended an address on Syntax Street and it will be alleged that he was assaulted and bound with duct tape before being stabbed a number of times in the arm with a syringe.

The man was able to escape the dwelling around 9am yesterday morning, and he then presented at the Ipswich police station where he received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

A crime scene was declared at a house on Syntax Street, and a man and a woman were taken into custody.

A man and a woman, both aged 47, were charged with three counts each of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of torture and stealing.

They are both due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on June 6.

Suspicious fire, Chinchilla

Police are investigating a suspicious fire at a residence at Chinchilla last night.

Initial investigations indicate emergency services were called to a fire in Inverai Street at 11.19pm. Upon arrival the house was found to be fully engulfed with fire. The fire was extinguished however the structure was significantly damaged as a result of the fire.

The house has been unoccupied for some time.

Police urge anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area, or who may have any other information that could assist in their investigations to contact Crime Stoppers or Policelink.
